Whether on foot or on horseback, along evocative paths, streams or clear water lakes, the Montalbano area offers pleasant nature excursions to discover fascinating landscapes and mysterious vestiges of ancient civilisations. The fortresses of Argimusco with its megaliths, curious shepherds' huts called cùbburi, water mills, dolmens and the Malabotta forest are a destination not to be missed. At Argimusco, there is a megalithic complex consisting of enormous boulders of uncertain origin, possibly the remains of a prehistoric village.

Of considerable ethno-anthropological interest are the cùbburi, which could be military posts of an Ionian-Tyrrhenian communication system, but more likely pre-Romanesque sylvan-pastoral shelters, true masterpieces of rural engineering capable of guaranteeing effective defence from the cold. To admire them, one must reach the Polverello plateau.

Finally, the Malabotta forest, which recently became a nature reserve, is worth discovering. Centuries-old trees, dense holly bushes and the occasional babbling brook are the seductive setting of a still unspoilt environment. Amidst beeches, oaks, pines and chestnut trees, foxes, dormice, wild boars, martens, birds of prey and even, in the highest part of the forest, the golden eagle live undisturbed.
